Okay, This weekend my son team is playing in a major NIT tournament, 8 out of the ten team are frozen allready, and 8 teams have births to the state tournament, but only 3 of them have berths to the world series. My question is does the last place team in this tournament get a berth to state? and not world series?? or how does this work.  their are ten teams in this tournament.
Thanks
Ray

If it is a Major NIT tournament, they are awarding World Series berths to the top 25% of teams (with 10 teams, 25% equals two teams). If the top two teams already have berths, they will pass their berths down. If they pass theirs down to teams that already have berths, those will pass down, and so forth. You must win at least one game to receive a berth, so most likely, the last-place team will not receive a berth.

No State berths are awarded at NIT tournaments. State berths are awarded at Qualifiers. However, if you win a WS berth, you automatically have a State berth.

Note: You must play in the State (Zone) tournament to play in the World Series.
